Welcome to DJ Victoria, a website to reminisce on my mixtapes produced in the 1990's. I am pictured above in the DJ booth of Diamonds Bar & Dance club.
Some of these tracks were the freshest available in the Rochester, NY market at the time. Others were pulled from countless secondhand stores or even a slushy street corner. Yes, one night in the alley to the side of Heaven, a guy was selling crates (the blue recycling bins) full of records for $10 each. I bought what I could drag away! These bins turned out to contain the most fun records ever, including a copy of Rapper's Delight and Neil Young's American Stars 'n Bars album in practically mint condition.
The below mix tapes have been painstakingly transferred from cassette. Some of the mixes aren't all that great. I was still learning to beat match. At first, I remember having the turntables set on the floor to practice because I hadn't gotten a table stable enough to prevent the needles from jumping. Close your eyes and pretend you are at Heaven, The Metro, or maybe Club Zero. Enjoy the old beats.
The downloads are in memory of my dearly departed friend David Hammond aka DJ Cruz. David taught me to DJ, and we were roommates for a while on Hickory Street. He was a truly kind, talented and genuine person who was taken prematurely from this earth.

One snowy afternoon we were practicing and decided to open a jug of cheap wine and roll tape, resulting in the "Cruz Victoria and a Large Jug" mix. The level drops towards the end because Mark Cross started beating on the ceiling, wanting us to turn it down. I could've fixed that but decided to just leave it alone. It's real.
Enjoy the 80s pre hip hop throwback. Lots of tracks from the bin off the street are on "DJV 80s Soulrnbfunkmix".
Check back weekly! I have a jazzy mix and an 80's pop mix coming.
*They are in segments simply due to file size limit.
Check out this video produced by RIT students. This film shows highlights of Halloween 1992 at Heaven Nightclub. DJ Dmitry from Dee-Lite was the main act. You can see a quick shot of me at about 2:53. That's me in the black sequined halter top. The other girl was named Carol.

In 1853 my great-great grandfather led a wagon train west during the California Gold rush. Returning to Ohio 5 years later a wealthy man, he invested in his hometown as a farmer, businessman and politician. BUT Did his tragic public demise tarnish the family name? Research ongoing for a book/video. www.johnkrichard.com
